Applicants need to:

  1. Pay a Government contribution of EUR37,000, regardless of whether you rent or purchase a property;
  2. Pay a contribution for dependents of €7,500 each.
  3. Make a donation of EUR2,000 to a local non-governmental organisation registered with the Commissioner of Voluntary Organisations;
  4. Pay an administrative fee of EUR60,000 per application;
  5. Purchase Property the property value must be a minimum of €375,000 situated in Malta or Gozo. The property can be sub-leased for short lets after approval in principle.
  6. OR Rent Property the lease value must be for a minimum of €14,000 per year for a property situated in Malta or Gozo and can be sub-leased for short-lets after completion of 5 year annual compliance period.
  7. be in possession of a valid travel document;
  8. take out a sickness insurance policy to cover all risks across Malta;
  9. take out a travel insurance when travelling across Schengen.

Requirements

  • Be non-EU, non-EEA and non-Swiss nationals.
  • Have a certificate of good health from a reputable health system.
  • Have assets of minimum €500,000 (of which €150,000 must be financial assets) or €650,000 (of which €75,000 need to be financial assets).
  • Have a stable and regular source of income.
  • Have a clean criminal record.
  • Not be considered a potential national security risk.
  • Not have a reputational risk.
  • Not subject to criminal proceedings.

Procedures & Timeline

The professional fees vary according to the complexity of the principal applicant’s affairs and each of the dependents.

The administration fee of €60,000, is payable to the Residency Malta Agency (RMA). Out of this amount, €15,000 is initially payable as a non-refundable administrative fee upon submission. The initial amount can be paid within 1 month from submission.

The administrative fees cover the principal applicant, their spouse/partner and any minor dependent children. The administrative fee of €45,000 is to be paid within 2 months from the issuance of the letter of approval in principle. Other adult dependent children, parents and grandparents, can be added at an additional fee of €7,500 each. Spouse is excluded from this fee.

The Contribution for the application of €37,000 has to be paid by the applicant within 8 months from the issuance of the letter of approval in principle.
